Mourners frown over non release of Cynthia’s corpose
HUNDREDS of mourners who besieged the family compound of the late Cynthia Osokogu in Boji-Boji Owa, Agbor, Delta State, yesterday left the compound, disappointed over the non release of her corpse by police for interment, even after a funeral mass was conducted at Saint Dominic Catholic Church, Owa in her honour.
Cynthia’s corpse was slated for interment at the family compound on Owa-Ike Street, Boji-Boji Owa, Ika North Local Government Area of Delta state yesterday, but this was not to be. One of the mourners who simply identified herslf as Rose, lamented the development said:
“I travelled all the way from Nasarawa State to this place to pay my last respect but have waited for the arrival of the corpse for several hours without success. It is painful.”
Her father, Major General Frank Osokogu, rtd, later explained that the burial was postponed based on the advice of the police and doctors.
He said, “as regards the interment, we have shifrted the date based on the advice of the professionals who are handling the case.
The professionals I am talking about are the police and the medical team. “They have the profile of the case.
They have to handle the documentation, looking at the profile and circumstances of the case. The documentation must be done without mistakes because the matter is going to court.
So, it is on their advice that we have decided to postpone the interment but since we have gone very far with the arrangement before this time, there was no need to postpone everything; we were advised that we could go ahead with other items in the programme as scheduled.
“When the technical team finishes its job and releases the body to the family, the inner family and friends who are still disposed to be around will come and participate in the burial. The information came this morning from Lagos and there was nothing we could have done. This is not strange, it has happened. The medical personnel are involved in the technical team and it is the medical people that carry out the autopsy.”
Reverend Father Eugene Nweke who officiated at the mass described the killers of Miss Osokogu condemned the action of the suspects, describing their alleged sins as ‘’heinous crime.’’
Also Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan who was at the family house of retired Major General Frank Osokogu to condole with them over the tragic death of their daughter, Cynthia, said, “the social network should be used for the development of the society like in the developed societies and not for criminal purposes,’’ pointing out that, ‘’anyone could have fallen victim to the criminals”.
Uduaghan described the untimely death of the 24 year- old Cynthia Osokogu as a clear case of betrayal of trust.
“This will teach us to be cautious of the types of friends we accept on facebook,” the Governor emphasized.
His wife, Deaconess Roli Uduaghan who accompanied her husband to the visit led the audience in prayers for the bereaved family, asking that God should grant the Osokogu family the fortitude to bear the loss.
