Bomb Explosion Hits Abuja Shopping Mall

SaharaReporters has learned that a bomb carefully hidden under a plant in front of Park 'N Shop at Sheriff Shopping Plaza in Wuse II, Abuja, has exploded.

There were no casualties and no damage in the explosion, which occurred near the Banex Plaza, but a recharge card seller was reportedly injured. A police source also told Saharareporters a second bomb was found and safely detonated in the area.

In a statement, police spokesman Frank Mba confirmed the incident. He said that a team of policemen led by the FCT police commissioner Aderenle Shinaba and soldiers had put up barricades around the scene, with nobody allowed in except the search and rescue team of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

“FCT Police are continuing with their intensive overt and surveillance patrols of the city and wishes to reassure the residents of the police preparedness to continue to provide a safe and secured environment for social and economic activities to thrive unhindered,” he said.

The statement also warned “mischief makers,” in their own interest to “keep off the city or have themselves to blame as the long arm of the law will soon catch up with them.”
