FUNKE AKINDELE, MONALISA CHINDA AND NADIA BUARI NOMINATED FOR ZAFAA'S BEST ACTRESS


Nominees for the 2012 edition of the Zulu African Film Academy Awards, ZAFAA have been unveiled.

Nigerian movie industry celebrities gathered at the popular O’jez restaurant for the nomination ceremony, which was held on Sunday, August 19, 2012.

An array of Nollywood stars attended the event.

A few of the stars who made the nomination list include Funke Akindele, Monalisa Chinda and Nadia Buari who are up for the best actress category, while Joseph Benjamin and John Dumelo will battle with veteran Olu Jacobs for the Best Actor award.

Other nominees include Lancelot Imasuen, Ruke Amata and Desmond Elliot for the Best Director category, and Nse Ikpe-Etim and Martha Ankoma have been nominated in the Best Supporting actress category.

According to organisers, the aim of the award is to reward hardworking African filmmakers for the time, energy and resources invested in projecting African values through their films.

This year’s edition is the fifth and will hold in London on Friday, October 19, 2012 and Saturday, October 20, 2012.

Past ZAFAA winners include actors Genevieve Nnaji, Daniel Ademinokan, Majid Michel, Yemi Blaq and producers, Obi Emelonye and Emem Isong.

On July 1, 2012, Nigerian entertainers Banky W, Sasha, Funke Akindele, Yaw and others made their country proud as they lifted the Olympic Torch as part of the proceedings and build up to the 2012 London Olympics.

BANKY W TO LIFT OLYMPIC TORCH



Banky W has been chosen as one of the distinguished people to carry the 2012 Olympic Torch.

The EME boss will join three other distinguished entertainers including Steve Onu (Yaw), Funke Akindele, and football star, Kanu Nwankwo to lift the Torch in Coventry, U.K on Sunday, July 1, 2012.

This is the second time a Nigerian musician would be selected to feature in the ceremonial initiative. Rapper Eedris Abdulkareem was part of the Nigerians selected to carry the torch in 2001.

Meanwhile, Wizkid has confirmed he’s joining Tiwa Savage as brand ambassador for Pepsi.

The 21 year-old star singer, who returned last week from Beirut where he was shooting Pepsi commercials with Tiwa, says he’s having fun and working hard to make sure ‘doesn’t disappoint’.
