Deeper Life Bible Church Massacre In Okene: Death Toll Rises

The death toll in yesterday's attack on a Deeper Life Church in Okene, Kogi State, has hit 17.

The latest casualty was reported by doctors hours after the shooting.

Unknown gunmen had on Monday night invaded a Deeper Life Church in the Otite area of Okene, Kogi state, behind the Federal Collage of Education in the area, opening fire on worshippers observing night Bible studies.

Staff of the college, including the Dean of Science, Esther Omeiza, was critically injured in the attack. Family members said she was shot both in her arms and legs.

The pastor of the church, Stephen Lambe, a lecturer at the Kogi State Polytechnic, Osara campus, died instantly, during the attack.

Survivors said the attackers first put off the church's power generating set before opening fire on the victims from all sides of the uncompleted church, living little room for escape.

Critically injured victims were rushed to hospitals in Lokoja, the state capital.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack as yet.
