Nigeria’s Rivers Police Command Arrests 13 Suspects In Connection To The Killing Of 4 Uniport Students
Nigeria’s Rivers Police Command has arrested 13 suspects in connection with the alleged students of the University of Port Harcourt, in Aluu community.
The suspects included 12 males aged between 20 years and 59 years and a female, Miss Lucky Orji.
Parading the suspects before journalists on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Muhammad Indabawa, said the nature of the crime prompted the parade.
“The gruesome manner in which the crime was committed coupled with the direct and glaring involvement of some of these suspects and the interest generated by the heinous crime left the police with no option than to parade them,“ he said.
Warning To Nigerian Students Studying In Ukraine
Nigerian Ambassador to Ukraine, Frank Ngozi Isoh, has advised Nigerians to be wary of sending their children to English Language training institutions as Ukrainians are not proficient in the language.
In September, the National Universities Commission (NUC) had said some states sponsored students to sub-standard universities and Ukraine was one of the countries mentioned.
Isoh said, “One thing I will like to say about education in this place, and this is something we intend to package in a report to government to see how this can be propagated back home - I do not think that Nigerians get the best when it comes to studying in this place in English language.” Please click to continue.

Female Cashier Bolts With N2m
A female cashier with Kentuckey Fried Chicken, KFC, is now facing trial for allegedly diverting the eatery’s sales proceeds and claiming it was snatched from her.
The incident happened when Hope James was asked to go and pay in the money in a bank at Festac, Lagos, southwest Nigeria.
The 27-year old cashier was arrested and charged to Isolo Magistrate’s court for alleged conspiracy and stealing.
The total amount she allegedly stole was N2,148, 290, belonging to KFC.
The defendant was employed as a cashier at the Festac branch of the company before this incident happened.
P.M.NEWS learnt that when she was arrested, she claimed that the money was snatched from her when she was going to the bank.
She was charged on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing under sections 409 and 285 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.
She pleaded not guilty and the presiding Magistrate, Mrs M. O. Ajayi granted her bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Hope was, however, remanded in prison custody after she failed to meet the bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 30 October, 2012

According to his publicists, the singer/rapper/producer went all the way to Mexico to get inked by a Mr Roger aka Da Doctor of Mexico.
Kelly Hansome is calling the tattoos, which took about eight hours to be completely done, an ‘investment on his body.’
Some of the tattoos on his body include ‘praying hands’ with a microphone in between them and the inscription ‘work hard and stay humble’ which he says is his life motto.

On Friday morning, we were called by my second son, also a UNIPORT student, that all was not well and he was hearing bad rumours that villagers at ALUU, the host community of UNIPORT had murdered four students. I immediately rushed to the scene only to see my son’s dead body being taken away naked to a mortuary in ,I could not believe my eyes and collapsed. What did my son do? What did the other three young men who died with him do? First, we heard that the four students were alleged to have stolen a Blackberry phone and a laptop computer. This could not be further from the truth. My son has had a Blackberry phone and in fact a laptop computer since he was in primary school. No way could my son steal such a common thing as a cell phone which every village woman now owns.

The family member for has asked us not to reveal her identity, revealed that Elkannah was buried two days ago after extensive stitches to his burnt and severely battered body.
“Yes, he’s been buried.” The family member confirmed, “We recovered his body and we stitched it the best we could… It’s shocking the amount of brutality he and those boys endured. His body was beaten beyond repair, but yes, we’ve buried him.”
When asked about details of the burial, the source within the family continued, “We’re from Kalio Ama in Okirika Local Government Area, and in our custom, if you have endured the brutality, injuries and violence Elkannah endured, your body cannot be buried in town. So our 19-yr old boy was taken across and deep into the forest to be buried.”
The family source earlier stated that the family was still in shock and profound bewilderment after Elkannah and the three other boys were beaten to death and burnt by indigenes of Aluu community.
UNEC students protest over fee increase
Students of the Enugu Campus of the University of Nigeria (UNEC) have thronged in front of the main gate of the elite university, to protest the sudden sharp increment in their tuition fees.
A student said, “We in FHST (Faculty of Health Science and Technology) are now told we’ll be paying 46,650K against the 31,650 we paid last year. And they claim it is for the lousy lionet (campus internet service) even those that don’t have laptops are being made pay and not use the network. And besides, it’s so slow!”
According to most students, the story is the same and the consensus strong. They insist they won’t go back to the classrooms until the N12,000 increase is reversed by the University administration

20 Students Killed By Unknown Gunmen In Federal Poly Mubi
According to BBC, At least 20 students have been shot dead by unknown gunmen in Mubi, north-eastern Nigeria, a police source has told the BBC.
The attack happened at a student hostel away from the Federal Polytechnic Mubi campus, the source said.
A lecturer told the BBC that more than 40 students had been killed but there has been no official comment.
The reported killing comes days after a major operation against the Boko Haram militant group in the town.
The lecturer, who did not want his name to be used, told the BBC’s Hausa service that the students were asked to say their names after lining up.

But the fraud was discovered when benefits staff noticed the same address was being used for multiple claims, Snaresbrook Crown Court heard.
Thomas, an illegal immigrant, was jailed for seven years while Abiola, also a Nigerian national with leave to remain in the UK, received two-and-a-half years.

171 Nigerian female pilgrims home after Saudi ban
According to PMNews, about 171 of Nigerian unaccompanied female pilgrims, barred from entering Jeddah for the annual Hajj by the Saudi authorities, returned to Kano Nigeria today.
Up to 1,000 Nigerian women were affected by the ban order because they were not accompanied by men, with most stuck at the Jeddah airport, Nigerian officials said Wednesday.
The women, who began arriving Sunday at the airport in Jeddah, in western Saudi Arabia, were facing possible deportations by Saudi authorities, said a report compiled by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, which oversees Nigerian participation in the Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca.

Cynthia: Court grants two suspects bail, remands driver
A Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday granted bail to two suspects arrested in connection with the alleged murder of Cynthia Osokogu,
But the driver who was accused of driving the prime suspect to Cosmilla Hotel, FESTAC, was remanded in prison custody.
The suspects granted bail – Nonso Ezike (22), who is the younger brother to Olisaeloka, one of the alleged killers, and Ezeaka Chinonso (27) – were arrested by policemen at Area E for receiving and selling Cynthia’s BlackBerry phone.
The two counts read, “That you Ezike Nonso Ifechukwu and Ezeaka Chinonso, sometime in the month of July 2012, at 93 Tedi/Memo Road Abule-Osun, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit: receiving robbed/stolen property thereby committed an offence and punishable under Section 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Honest Abuja taxi driver gets his reward
According to PMNews, Mr Imeh Usuah, a taxi driver, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International, Abuja, on Tuesday emerged the winner of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) maiden Integrity Award. Usuah was awarded a plaque and N2.5 million($15,860) for his honesty.
Usuah, accompanied by his wife Mercy was celebrated by the capital market community for returning N18 million forgotten in his taxi cab in 2007 by a customer.
Usuah a former workshop foreman with Julius Berger Plc had earlier been acknowledged and commended by four different groups in the country.
Ms Arunma Oteh, the Director- General of SEC said that the award was the commission’s contributions toward the promotion, recognition and reward for integrity.
“Usuah’s exemplary act of honesty and integrity had sprinkled a burst of refreshing dew upon the national consciousness,” Oteh said.
She said that “the integrity award is a careful response to a critical need of the Nigerian society, as it is through it that trust is built and sustained.”
In his response, Usuah, a native of Ubokudom in Akwa Ibom, commended the commission for the gesture and devoted the award to the “unsung honest and committed Nigerians across the country.”

11-year-old stabs father to death for beating mom
CEBU CITY, Philippines–An 11-year-old girl stabbed her father dead Sunday night after she saw him hitting her mother on the head and cutting her leg with a hacksaw inside their house in Argao town, 58 km south of this city, the authorities said.
The 38-year-old father was found dead on a vacant grassy lot a few minutes after he ran away from his daughter who stabbed him in the chest at about 11 p.m. inside their house in Barangay Canbanua, Argao.
The police took custody of the girl who was later turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development, said Insp. Alan Batobalunos, Argao police chief. Alleged N55m fraud: Ex-Police IG, Ehindero, docked, granted bail
Former Inspector General of Police, Mr Sunday Ehindero, was yesterday, arraigned before an Abuja High Court over his alleged complicity in the misappropriation of about N557million belonging to the Nigerian Police Force.
He pleaded not guilty to a six- count criminal charge that was preferred against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC. The ex-IGP was docked alongside a former Commissioner of Police in charge of Budget, Mr John Obaniyi.
Specifically, the anti-graft agency maintained that its investigations revealed that the accused persons, diverted the sum of N300million out of N557million that was donated to the Nigerian Police Force, NPF, by the Bayelsa State Government when President Goodluck Jonathan was its Governor, adding that the money was traced to a fixed deposit account at Wema Bank Plc where it had already yielded an interest of N9.8 million.

Actor Jailed in Abuja for Sodomy
A 26-year old actor, Bestwood Chukwuemeka, was on Monday sentenced to three months imprisonment by a Karu Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for having sexual intercourse with another man through the anus.
The convict, who resides at Gidan Mangoro, had pleaded guilty to the charge.
“I am guilty of the charge against me. I was under the influence of alcohol and I want the court to temper justice with mercy’’, he said.
The police prosecutor, Mohammed Umar, had told the court that the convict committed the offence in August when the complainant was sleeping in his bed.
Corpses recovered from Chinese company's pool
The corpses of two young men have been recovered from the swimming pool of a Chinese-owned company in Lagos.
The deceased, whose bodies were recovered last week, have been identified by other factory workers as Imhonbhio Martins Odion from Ewohimi, Edo state and Richard Dada from Ugoja, Rivers State.

Robbers Attacks Nkem Owoh's Crib In Enugu
Nollywood actor Nkem ‘Osuofia’ Owoh lost his Mitsubishi Montero SUV to robbers in his Enugu home last week.
Owoh who was in Abuja when the Enugu robbery took place says no life was lost.
I gathered that the robbers snuck into his house located at Phase 6; Tran’s Ekulu, Enugu and carted away a few of his property including Toshiba laptop and camcorder and then broke into one of the vehicles parked in the compound – a Mitsubishi Montero SUV with number plate BU 64 FST and left with it.
‘I was in Abuja last week Saturday when my neighbours called that it was like my place was burgled, that my gate appeared to be open. I asked them to check and they reported back that out of the three vehicles parked in the compound, the Jeep was no longer there’, the actor told Daily Post.
Owoh says he has asked his driver to report the robbery incident to the Police. There are no suspects for now…

Forty-year-old Kazuhiro Watanabe (kah-zoo-HEE’-roh wah-tah-NAH’-bee) says he’s been growing the hair for 15 years. He says to make it stand upright it takes stylists two hours, one can of gel and three cans of hairspray. He says he wanted to grow the mohawk to rebel against the conformity of Japanese society.
Watanabe has held the title since January 2011.
