FUNKE AKINDELE BEATS GENEVIEVE TO WIN ‘BEST ACTRESS’ AT ZUMA FILM FESTIVAL


Funke Akindele on Wednesday night, May 9, 2012 received the ‘Best Actress’ award at this year’s ZUMA Film Festival which was held in Abuja.

Akindele beat the likes of Genevieve Nnaji and Lillian Bach to clinch the title.

Akindele received the award for her role in ‘Maami’, the film produced by veteran cinematographer Tunde Kelani who was himself awarded the ‘Best Director’. ‘Maami’ also won the award for ‘Best Nigerian Film’.

Akindele, whose career has grown in leaps and bounds, since the success of her hit movie Jenifa, dedicated the award to her father.

Other winners of the night are Yemi Blaq who won the Best Actor’s award for his role in the film, ‘The Impostor’, Mahood Ali-Balogun whose film, ‘Tango With Me’ won the Best Script award, film critic, Shuaibu Husseini, who won the Best film Journalist award and Idi Nasiru whose ‘Naked Truth’ film was adjudged the Best Student film.

The award was held at the NICON Luxury hotel, Abuja.
