Keshi to Shun Odemwengie’s Wedding

Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi, ruled himself out from attending Osaze Odemwengie’s wedding next month.

Keshi will announce his squad Friday for the World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Namibia and Rwanda on June 3 and 15 respectively and is not likely that Odemwengie will be one of the players that will listed for those matches.

He announced at the weekly media chart that the busy programme of the national team would not in any way permit him to turn up at the occasion.

Before taking a categorical stance on Odemwengie’s conjugal plan, it had been reported that the Keshi was proposing to discuss with the West Brom striker in the light of his marriage plans and how it will affect with national team’s engagement.

Odenwengie is due to tie the knots on June 2 on the eve of Nigeria’s decisive 2013 Africa Cup of Nations reverse fixture against Rwanda.

“If he (Odemwengie) invites me for the wedding, I will be very glad but I can’t attend because I have a job to do. I wish him a successful wedding and conjugal bliss,” Keshi sounded.

Before confirming his unavailability, the raw nerve of the former Mali coach was touched when a reporter suggested and wanted to know if Odemwengie’s proposed party and his likely unavailability for selection would disrupt the Eagles international plan.

“It is just about one person and I don’t see how an individual activity will truncate a national event. For goodness sake, we are taking about a nation and I refused to imagine how that will affect us. It will not in any way affect us, he said.”

While the Eagles will play a friendly against Peru in Lima on May 23, Keshi has said most of the players that will travel for the match will in addition form the team for the matches against Namibia and Rwanda billed for Calabar.
