There are strong indications that Segun Arinze has resigned his position as the National president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), following the incessant crisis rocking the guild over the years.
In a statement addressed to the AGN Board of Trustees, and allegedly signed by the actor,which was circulated online on Thursday, Segun is said to be giving up his post as a result of the ‘sad development’ which marred the guild’s elections, which took place at Baden Hotel in Benin City, Edo state, on Friday April 27, 2012.

Effort by HVP to confirm this development proved abortive as Segun’s cell phone was switched off, at the time of filing this report.
However, his action was not unconnected with the outcome of the guild’s election which was aborted in Benin.
The elections into various positions in the guild have witnessed various challenges over time, including three postponements and a court injunction halting its conduct, championed by Emeka Ike. It suffered a setback last Friday, after certain factions of the guild set about allegedly ruining the entire process with violence.
Unconfirmed reports claimed that there were scuffles among delegates, leading to a commotion late into the night that left the process uncompleted.
HVP gathered that troubled started when the supporters of one of the stronger contenders for the guild’s top position, Emeka Rollas, sensed that his opponent actress Ibinabo Fiberesima was likely going to emerge the next president of the guild, having stormed the election venue with a large followers resorted to using violence to disrupt the election.
Meanwhile, in a letter written to governor Adams Oshiomhole, and dated 23rd April, 2012, Emeka Ike had urged the governor to halt the election on the ground that it was illegal, as a restraining order from a Lagos High court had already been issued against the process.
