Hollywood, Nollywood shake hands in TOBI

…to be premiered May18
Nigerian movie industry is set to witness one of its most exciting cinematic episodes since the days of Ije and Unwanted Guest, as TOBI, a Nigerian flick shot in New York, hits Nigerian cinemas.

The producer of TOBI, Emmanuel Ijeh will on May 18, lead movie stars from New York to Ozone Cinemas, Lagos for the official premiere of the movie.

TOBI is a movie that captures the pillars of our individual choices, the height of sacrifice, the priceless nature of a sound education, the curse of nemesis and how we must all understand that when sorrow comes, they come not as single spies but in battalions.

The suspense-filled movie explores the consequences of what happens when 21-year-old Tobi (Mark Williams) bows to the dark side of gang pressure. In a flash, a seemingly morally upright young man gets caught in a web of violence, guns, bloodshed, drugs, parental expectations and conflicting voices in his head.

However, the director of the movie, Bethels Agomuoh further bridges the gap between the Nollywood and Hollywood by shooting a Nigerian picture in the United States with a healthy blend of American and Nigerian cast.

Meanwhile, HVP cornered the producer of the movie, Emmanuel Ijeh, who was recently in Nigeria as part of preparations to make the Nigerian premiere of the movie an unforgettable experience, and he said this about the movie:

“TOBI is a movie that will further edge the face of the Nigerian movie industry on the rocks of brilliance and recognition. The film is born out of my conviction that Nigerian stories should no longer be confined to the walls of Nollywood.

“ I strongly believe that the bridge erected by movies like Ije, Mirror Boy and a host of others should be extended and strengthened by consistently keeping the oils of creativity and originality greased through hard work, commitment and dedication.”

However, as the scheduled date for the premiere of TOBI continues to draw closer, Nigerian celebrities at home and in the Diaspora have been lending their voices in support to the movie.

Some of those who have openly approved the movie include Nollywood star, Desmond Elliot; Mr. Nigeria 2007, Bryan Okwara; popular singer, Muma Gee; and many others.
